The sun was coming in the window, creating a beam so strong it blasted out the details of anything in its path. The sunflower rested serenely against the side of the vase, drinking in the last rays of the day’s energy. Everything beyond was left totally in the dark. And all was quiet.

This scene, although exaggerated, existed in real life. I had come upstairs and discovered the light spilling across the room, so strong that the contrast was irresistible. Painted from a reference with very little altered, the contrast was overstated for effect.
