BFF
Aluminum Panel, 24" x 8"

This piece, a digital exaggeration of Calla Lilies, was drawn from a photo reference containing plenty of detail, but without a lot of personality. The real-life lily stalks had been cut short - stumpy, really - which seemed a shame to me. These two were obviously buddies – but the arrangement and photo left them a bit graceless. In Illustrator, I pared down the image to the bare bones of a value study – light, medium and dark – and applied colors only tangentially related to the real thing. Lastly, I str-e-e-e-e-tched them up and around each other. The result is a very simple composition that conveys an equally simple idea about friendship: “I’ll dance through life with you – and sister, I’ll always have your back”.
