I was given several root vegetables recently, and the colors were so gorgeous that I laid them out on a glass-topped table to photograph them. After I enhanced their true colors by misting them with water, they became an irresistible subject for a still life. As I was developing the forms, I decided to allow the colors to drip down, creating an impression of roots reflecting through the watery glass they were lying on. This created the abstracted idea of dripping the paint down the canvas, creating a root-like feeling to the piece. ~ tch
