"As icons of the American West, longhorn skulls represent a history of challenges and adventures, particularly of the Chisholm Trail."

"He was my favorite" was the comment made by my husband's uncle as we walked through his rural property near Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He had raised several longhorn cattle for years and had gotten attached to several of them. Although he has stopped breeding them, a few still remain on the ranch. While we were there for that visit, I took several photos of the memorialized skulls displayed along the wall of the barn. This skull was particularly beautiful with a lengthy span of twisted horns still attached. Though the horns look menacing, these are gentle animals with a wonderful history in this country.
