Everyone has heard of Mare Tranquillitatis – better known as the “Sea of Tranquility” – on the moon, the spot where Neil Armstrong made his giant leap for mankind. But it’s only one of many lunar “seas” - large swaths of solidified lava that appear as dark markings on the moon. Mare Serenitatis (“Sea of Serenity”), Mare Nubium (“Sea of Clouds”), Mare Nectaris (Sea of Nectar) and more dress the surface of the moon, all with almost poetic names. But the sea that caught my imagination happens to be the largest of the lunar seas: “Oceanus Procellarum” or, “Ocean of Storms”. From the moment I heard that name I knew it fit this digital creation like a rhyme to a sonnet. Torrents of color and pattern converge to tell a tale of conflict that earns the name, “Ocean of Storms”. ~kcg
