When we bought our house, it had two well-established lilac trees in the side yards. One morning a few years ago, I laid several of their cuttings in a long ceramic vase on our counter. That evening, as the full moon rose over the mountains, I captured the cool light skipping across them, revealing a variety of periwinkles and pinkish violets among the chartreuse foliage. The light of the rising moon provided intriguing patterns emerging from the deep shadows of the room. I took photos of these blossoms and am happy to have finally been able to paint this memorable image. It's a quiet favorite! ~tch
