To Monet, the water lilies in his Giverny pond were “an accompaniment” to the Hero, namely the light, color, and reflection of the water itself. In this homage to the master, “Pondering Monet” is more of a value study, where the early morning water, as still as glass, serves as supporting character to the lights and darks – represented in bold colors – of an exuberant lily.
